WINNER’S EDGE
Do the right thing for the right reason. Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice, It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.
William Jennings Bryan

WINNER’S EDGE
Why are some people more successful than others? Why does one man go through life crossing one hurdle after another and accomplish his goals while another struggle and gets nowhere?
If the answers to these two questions become part of your psyche, it would revolutionize your life.
A lot of research has been done on the subject of winning and losing. The secret of winning can be learned from the lives of the winners. All winners have certain qualities common in them no matter which period of history they lived in or what their fields of endeavor were.
The following verse lists a few of those qualities which though are not easy to follow yet are simple and effective.
To laugh often and love much;
To win the respect of intelligent persons
and the affection of children;
To earn the approval of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To give of one ‘s self without the slightest thought of return;
To have accomplished a task, whether
a healthy child, reused soul, a
garden patch, or redeemed social condition
To have played and laughed with
Enthusiasm and sung with exaltation;
To know that even one life has breathed
easier because you have lived;
This is to have succeeded.

Hence, winning is no mystery. It is the result of simply applying some basic principles. Success is a manifestation of good luck that results from inspiration, aspiration, desperation, and perspiration – generally in that sequence.
Success leaves clues, if we identify and adopt the qualities of winners, we too shall be winners, similarly, there are characteristics common to people who are not successful. If we avoid those characteristics, then we shall not be losers. For example, the common man seeks security, whereas the uncommon man seeks opportunity.

To have the winning edge you need to keep your mind on what you want, not on what you don’t want. Winning is not an accident. It is the result of your attitude is a choice. Hence, winning is a matter of choice and not chance.

A person who aims at nothing never misses.
Aiming low is the biggest mistake people make.

Winners see objectives: losers see obstacles.
A person who wants to be the success to set a goal but before deciding on the goal, each goal must be evaluated in the light of the following (like the Rotary club’s four-way Test):
1. Is it the truth?
2. Is it fair to all concerned?
3. Will it get me goodwill?
4. Will it get me health, wealth and peace of mind?
5. Is it consistent with my other goals?
6. Can I commit myself to it?

Goals without action are empty dreams. Action turn dreams into goals. Even if we miss our goal, it does not make us a failure.
Delay does not mean defeat.
Just like a camera needs focus to take a good picture, we need goals to make a productive life.
Goals lead to purpose in life. It is the starting point for success. Aim for the moon. Even if you miss, you will become on the stars.
“Make no little plans, they have no
magic to stir men’s blood. Make big
plans, aim high in hope and work.”
-Daniel H. Burnham
Life is like a cafeteria. You take your tray, select your food, and pay at the other
end. You can get anything you want as long as you are willing to pay the price. In a cafeteria, if you wait for people to serve you, you will wait forever. Life is like that too. You make a choice and pay the price to succeed.

If we practice poorly, we play poorly; because we play as we practice. The difference between success and failure is the difference between doing exactly right and almost right. A complete mental and physical preparation is the result of sacrifice
and self-discipline. It is easy to be average but thought to be the best. No wonder the average people choose the easy way. Preparation is the necessary edge to succeed in any field

Professionals make things look easy because they have mastered the fundamentals of whatever they do. Many people do good work with promotions in mind. But the one to whom good work becomes a habit is deserving.
